Hojicha Tea is a Japanese roasted green tea made with a 3rd flush Bancha leaf, known as Senbancha in the tea industry. The leaves are steamed, dried, and then roasted at a low heat, resulting in a reddish color and unique flavor. With its full-bodied character and cinnamon-like, toasted, and nutty notes, it is the perfect accompaniment to Asian themed meals, and can be enjoyed hot or poured over ice for a refreshing palate cleanser.

Great tea from a great shop

I started shopping at Shafa early in my time in Maryland, and rely on them now that I have left the state! Among their excellent selection of teas, this hojicha has emerged as one of my favorites.

It is delicate, and the roasting process has imparted a complex, umami, and almost malty character to it that makes it a delight. It's one of my daily driver teas, and I can't recommend it enough.
